All performances exceeding the maximum time limits must have approval from the DDC Directors when entries are submitted or a deduction of one mark every 10 seconds over will be deducted.

Dance Styles
Jazz

Contains traditional jazz movement & technique.

** May contain 3 Acro tricks **

Tap

Technical footwork with a rhythmic quality.

** No Acro tricks permitted **

Ballet

Classical or contemporary ballet technique. Ballet shoes required.

** No Acro tricks permited **

Hip Hop

Street style movements and can incorporate breakdancing.

** 3 Acro tricks or breakdancing moves are permitted **

Acro

Combines dance and gymnastics choreography.

** Unlimited tricks, but must contain 60% dance, 40% tricks. **

Contemporary

Incorporating lyrical and jazz movements with modern vocabulary.

** May contain 3 Acro tricks **

Lyrical

Dancers interpret the lyrics, mood and content of the music with emphasis on emotion and storytelling.

** May contain 3 Acro tricks **

Open

Any dance style or combination of dance style.

** May contain 6 Acro tricks **

Musical Theatre

Combines lip syncing and dance portraying a character.

** May contain 3 Acro tricks **

Pointe

Must include classical or contemporary pointe technique. Pointe shoes required.

Song & Dance

Live singing, along with dance choreography.

** No Acro tricks permitted **

Production

Incorporating any style(s) of dance with a theme or story which is portrayed throughout the entire routine.

Divisions
Novice Pre Competitive
  • This is for first time competitors who train less than 6 hours per week.
  • Soloist must be 100% Novice Pre Competitive and may have competed in a duet/trio or group
  • Duet/Trio must be 100% Novice Pre Competitive
  • Groups must be 75% Novice Pre Competitive
Novice Competitive
  • This is for first time competitors who train more than 6 hours per week.
  • Soloist must be 100% Novice Competitive and may have competed in a duet/trio or group
  • Duet/Trio must be 100% Novice Competitive
  • Groups must be 75% Novice Competitive
Pre Competitive
  • This Division is for dancers who train less than 6 hours per week.
  • A Pre competitive dancer can compete in a competitive group routine as long as they do not exceed the 6 hours and cannot compete in a competitive solo division.
  • All Pre Competitive routines must be 100% pre competitive
Competitive
  • This division is for dancers who train over 6 hours per week.
Young Choreographer
  • This Division is for young aspiring Choreographers under the age of 21, who would like to have
    the opportunity for their work to be judged and marked by a professional panel of judges.
  • Their Choreography must be their individual efforts.
  • Choreography will be judged in their own category and not eligible for regular overall awards, but the opportunity to be awarded Young Choreographer of weekend.
  • Young Choreographers must be dancers competing with their participating studios
    and Choreography can be created for themselves or created for dancers competing with their
    studio.


** Must have at least 3 Young Choreographers to be awarded Top Young Choreographer of the weekend. **

Adult
  • This is for a recreational/amateur dancer over the age of 19.
Title Solo
  • This is for dancers in the Competitive Division who wish to have their routine judged for the chance to win the Dynamite Solo Champion of their age division.

 

**Soloist can enter one Solo into the Title Competition. There is a separate entry fee to upgrade a Solo to Title.**
